Did you know?
The flag of the Netherlands was originally named the Prinsenvlag (the prince's banner) in reference to Prince William of Orange. It showed the colors orange, white and blue symbolizing the 3 colors of the dynasty of William I. It was decided to replace the orange color with red certainly to mark the objection to the power of the princes of Orange. Also, the orange color is very little visible at sea on the flags on the ships.
